This is a dream gig.

The Wickaninnish Inn on the west coast of Vancouver Island, near Tofino, is running a writers in residence program this winter.

Aside from having to battle the pounding surf for attention, I can’t imagine a nicer setting.

Their first writer is Vancouver actor and writer Stevie Miller.

Actually, I should refer to him properly, as Stephen E. Miller, who’s as good a writer as he is an actor (that’s a compliment).

If your lucky, you may have seen him on stage in Vancouver, if not, you’ve most likely you’ve seen him on film or TV. He’s a delight to watch, and an even more delightful person.

Here’s the schedule of events…

Saturday, January 31
Morning writing workshop
Swordfern Room

Afternoon writing workshop (advanced)
Swordfern Room

5:30-7pm: Reading & Discussion
Salal Room

Sunday, February 1
Noon-approx. 3pm: Fireside chat with Stephen
Driftwood Café

I personally LOVE the “noon-approx” start time on Sunday. That’s pure west-coast for you.

The deal is that the workshops are free for guests, but there are tickets on sale for non guest via Wildside Books in Tofino. (As an aside, the only problem with Wildside Books is this: the last time we were in Tofino, I couldn’t get EB out of there for hours !!)

Now, if you don’t know Stevie Miller, the man is gracious and open and wonderful. Plus, he’s got a really interesting (and subtle) southern accent to add to his talent as a writer. All this to say, it promises to be really great.
